Project Choice

A joint research project of Maxima MC and Choice BV.

Choice, a startup from Eindhoven, is developing a completely new form of contraception: by placing valves in fallopian tubes. If these valves are closed, they prevent pregnancy, because sperm cannot reach the egg. If the valves are opened again, it is possible, and the woman can become pregnant again. No hormones, no chemicals, no hassle, always safe.

Maxima MC supports this research with its gynaecologists, knowledge and facilities. Proof must be provided that these valves can be placed well in women, and have no negative consequences for them. Máxima asks permission from women who have to undergo a uterus removal for medical reasons. During the same operation, the placement of the Choice valves is first tested. If these tests are successful, we will repeat this by placing the Choice valves a few months before the uterus removal.

The European Union supports this project financially through the OPZuid instrument, to strengthen innovation in this region and the expected social impact of Choice.

The goal is to demonstrate that the Choice valves are safe and effective, so that approval can be given for large-scale clinical trials.
